Patio29 Yolo County Craft Vodka

Patio29 Yolo County Craft Vodka

Yes, we will make vodka!

Someone once said: “I’ve never understood vodka, It’s just really bad-tempered water.”

Vodka, under U.S. regulations, is meant to be “without distinctive character, aroma, taste or color.”  It is the stuff you mix with other stuff… or the stuff you drink straight when you just want a buzz not distracted by taste.

For the committed craft distiller, making vodka can be synonymous to an artist painter painting houses.  It is more a technical process than an artisan process.

But things are changing in the vodka world.   Distillers are pushing the boundaries of government rules to add a little something distinctive to their vodka.  Go too far and you end up with a flavored vodka… or even a gin (yes, gin is made from vodka).  But if you are careful and crafty, you can create a vodka that expresses some interesting and subtle sweet, spice, floral, citrus or other notes that keep it rooted in standard vodka territory.

And then there is mouth-feel.

Vodka can be made from almost any vegetable, grain or fruit that some yeast will ferment.  And all of these choices, along with the attention to the distillation and blending process, can produce a spirit with different viscosity.

Now, if you are mixing a cocktail, who cares about vodka mouthfeel?   But if you are one to sip or shoot your vodka, a different mouthfeel can influence your vodka tasting experience.

Patio29 Spirits Co.’s “Yolo County Craft” Vodka will be made from a careful blend of both sourced grain spirits and house-made spirits made from local-sourced grain.  It will express some subtle sweet and grain notes and deliver a more creamy mouthfeel than your standard big-brand vodkas.

We do not judge spirit drinkers.  Mixed, sipped, shots… anyway you like it… we hope you like our “Yolo County Craft” vodka.
